The decision to travel without my laptop has proven to be both good and bad. I really cannot imagine lugging that thing around again but its absence has made it impossible to keep my blog current. So since I now have access to a computer I will do my best to recall my time in Toulouse and London.
After Barcelona, I took a short ride across the border into France to visit Ellie in Toulouse. Its a nice city nestled in the south west of the country. My time there was chilled out as it's not really a tourist destination with iconic sites to see. But, of course, I still found ways to eventfully fill my time. With a large population of university students, it's got a good night life and the cost of living seems reasonable. During my time there I attended my first live rugby match. Really fun! Tickets were only €20 and we were just two rows from the field. The atmosphere at the stadium made it even more of an experience! I do have to weigh in and say American football still stands, in my mind, as the more brutal and physical sport. I do have a new found appreciation for rugby, though.
I really hadn't planned what to do after Toulouse so it was time for me to sit down and get a little more structure in my life. My first move was a rather spontaneous flight to London where I got to meet up with some more friends. I spent time with my friend and past travel buddy, Dan, long time friend, Hillary, and new found friend I met in Barcelona, Anna. My days were mostly filled with seeing the sites, visiting the plethora of free museums and, of course, a bit of sampling the local pub scene.
I'd have to say, besides the weather, London was a fucking amazing city. Just like any other major metropolitan city, it has EVERYTHING. Travellers, tourists, show premiers, performers, industry, food from all over the world.. Everyone wants to come through. In addition, it also has tremendous history with all sorts of old buildings and architecture that seamlessly mixes in with modern buildings. However, the city is lacking a breathtaking skyline but that's just getting nit picky. On the upside, it seems to be so centrally located on a global scale. That just seems to make it even more popular and appealing. Bottom line, if given a good job opportunity in this city, I'd be all over it.
