When I arrived on Penang, I expected to stay for about four nights. However, my plans quickly changed. After just a few nights I was completely caught in the trap of the island. Georgetown. A town on the island of Penang which is in the northwest part of Malaysia. Penang is known around the world for its unique foods mostly sold by hawkers and Georgetown is the capitol for this amazing food. Georgetown also has rich colonial history and much of the architecture reflects that.
I stayed in a place called The Reggae Hostel which had private cubby style dorm beds, and nice common area, and a restaurant/bar downstairs. The atmosphere of the hostel mixed with the atmosphere of the town and the amazing food and street art made it very hard to leave.
To boot, I was surprised Saturday morning by one of the hostel employees who informed us about a free concert that evening. The concert was put on by 1Malaysia which is the primary political party in Malaysia. With the election just around the corner, political parties are currently trying to gain support. The man from the hostel continued to explained that there would be a lot of famous artists from Hong Kong and a few from the states that included Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, Swizz Beatz & LMFAO. Although we were a bit skeptic that there would be a free concert with names that big, we decided to check it out. We were not disappointed.
Of course, during my stay on Penang I rented a motorbike. I literally drove the entire way around the island and got to see some more of the island beyond Georgetown.
Great photos!!!!
