I'm Just Gettin' Started

Leaving Bali was tough. I had an extremely grueling travel to get to Malaysia which consisted of unexpected costs & broken up shitty sleep on planes and various areas of the Singapore airport. The Singapore airport is like purgatory. Many people have extended layovers here. Those who have transfers on non-budget airlines don't have to worry about their bags and can just sleep in the lounge until its time to board their next flight. For those on a budget, you must collect your bags and then find a place to nest until you can check in for the next flight. Outside the check in area looked like how I imagine the inside of the Superdome looked during hurricane Katrina.

After this strenuous journey, my time in Malaysia got off to a great start. I met up with Ellie, my gracious host from Hong Kong, and we set off to Melaka. This is an old quirky town about two hours south of the capitol, Kuala Lumpur. The town has a lot of history and a destination for many Malaysian tourists.

From Melaka, we traveled back up to Kuala Lumpur. Here we ended up in a shit hostel, Backpacker Travelers Inn. So we spent as much time as possible out and about being good tourists and seeing the sites. We also tried to go hit the bar scene one night but alcohol is unreal expensive. I'm not sure if it is because this is a Muslim country and most alcohol consumption is done by tourists or what. But it is hard to justify buying a drink at a bar when it's more expensive than in the States.

After Ellie's departure, I moved to a different hostel down the road called The Travel Hub which was much more accommodating. I spent my last few days there trying to get out and see more of the city while also taking it easy because I had been to the doctor for tonsillitis (for those counting, yes, this is my 4th time on antibiotics since traveling).
