Full Circle

Okay, so I believe my last post ended with me leaving Pai and returning to Chiang Mai. I spent one night in Chiang Mai before catching a local public bus to Thaton. I was traveling with Rob, a guy I met in Chiang Mai on my second visit who I also rode to Pai with. The bus was due North and took about four hours through windy roads. During this trip, we were the only Westerners on the bus and this thing stopped every 15 minutes or so, on average, to pick up and cram in more people.

That evening we had to scout out a place to sleep and didn't make too much of the night because we decided to get up early, hike to the top of a mountain, so we could see the sunrise. However, I did win a massage from the hotel we stayed at. Unfortunately, it was a massage from a guy. While it was professional, I did not fully enjoy it.

Rob also made a time lapse video of the of sunrise which you can see below:

That day we caught a boat along the Kok River which took us from Thaton to Chiang Rai. It took about three hours and the river varied in width and velocity the entire way. It was pretty much white water rafting in a long boat. While in Chiang Rai we rode ostriches, visited the White Temple and just generally lazed about for five days total.
